Washington Dulles International Airport

Lincoln Memorial

Teams were told to find the place where Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his famous "I Have a Dream" speech. Teams would travel here and would find their next clue.

1100 Pennsylvania Avenue

  • Washington, D.C.
  • Distance: 1.23 miles

Teams would be told they were going to have their picture taken with U.S. President Barack Obama. They would travel to this location, where they would be greeted by a man dressed in a black suit and dark sunglasses. He would lead them through the building, but would end up delivering teams to a souvenir shop. There, they would have their photo superimposed over an image of Obama shaking hands with someone, making it seem like they met them. On the back of their printed novelty photograph, teams would find their next clue.

Tidal Basin

  • Washington, D.C.
  • Distance: 0.95 miles

SwitchbackRoadblock.png Switchback Roadblock: Teams had to find a limousine parked nearby and knock on the back window, where a mysterious man would hand them a briefcase and a Roadblock clue. Who's ready for some covert ops? This Roadblock recreated the one seen in leg 2 of The Amazing Race 8. One team member would take the briefcase and walk around the basin, where they would find hundreds of spies. They had to provide a code phrase, searching for the spy who would respond with the correct code answer. Max or Katie would ask "Where can I get a good half-smoke with chili?", looking for someone to respond with "I've heard there's a great place on U Street.". Bates or Anthony would ask "I did not dress warm enough for this weather.", looking for someone to respond with "Perhaps you would like to borrow my gloves." Mona or Beth would ask "The cherry blossoms are beautiful here in April.", looking for someone to respond with "I'll have to bring my mother next spring." When teams successfully exchanged briefcases with the spy, they would then have to unlock it using the three positions they arrived at during the third, fourth and fifth legs. Inside, they would find their next clue.

Bates, Max, Beth

Nationals Park

  • Washington, D.C.
  • Distance: 1.82 miles

Teams would be told to find the "Home of the Nats", leading them to this location. Once here, one team member would have to ride a zipline over the top of the park. Meanwhile, their partner would be on the ground wearing a mascot costume that limited their visibility. The teammate on the zipline had to drop a baseball and the one in costume had to catch it before it hit the ground. Once teams could accomplish this, they would get their next clue.

Hains Point

  • Washington, D.C.
  • Distance: 1.28 miles

Teams had to enter a huge pit filled with inflated globes, each with a different country outlined on it. Teams had to search for a globe with each of the countries they visited on the race (including one with French Polynesia circled) and place them in the proper order on a stand. If everything was correct, their final clue would be released to them.

Mount Vernon

  • Mount Vernon, Virginia
  • Distance: 10.9 miles

FinishLine.png Finish Line: Teams were only told to find the home of the first U.S. president.
