Visited Locations & Tasks

Colorado Street Bridge

The race began with Phil welcoming the eleven teams, explaining the basic rules of the race, introducing the Double Your Money bonus, and shouting "Go!" Teams were then instructed to rappel from the 10 storey bridge that stood between them and their first clue, which was sitting at the bottom on top of their bags. They would then find vehicles in the parking lot that they could use to travel to the Los Angeles airport, which included a video message from Phil informing them of their first destination.

Los Angeles International Airport

  • Los Angeles
  • Distance: 19.6 miles

The first seven teams to arrive would receive tickets for China Airlines 7, scheduled to land at 10:50AM, while the last three teams would fly on EVA Air 15, scheduled to land at 12:05PM.

Shanghai Pudong International Airport

Longyang Road Station

Yuanshen Sports Centre Stadium
  • Shanghai
  • Distance: 14.9 miles

Teams retrieved a clue from this location, though this was not shown on air at all.

  • Shanghai
  • Distance: 2.59 miles

Roadblock.png Roadblock: When teams made their way to a building next to this stadium, they found the first Roadblock of the race. Who's ready to get paddled? The chosen team member would have to play Table Tennis against a Chinese junior champion. The team member had to successfully score one point against their formidable opponent, but if they were scored upon they would have to wait until their next turn as she went from table to table facing off against other teams. The champion would also be using household items instead of a paddle (a clipboard, a frying pan, and a tambourine), though this was hardly a handicap. Once they hit a winning shot, they would receive their next clue.

Cui Ping Jiu Jia Restaurant

Hasma
  • Shanghai
  • Distance: 3.56 miles

Roadblock.png Roadblock: When teams found this restaurant, they encountered a second Roadblock. Whoever did not perform the first one would have to perform this one. Who wants to go 'tubing'? The chosen team member would enter the restaurant and be presented with two hollowed out papayas filled hasma, the fatty tissue located near a frog's fallopian tubes. Teams had to eat all of the hasma without using their hands, only the provided chopsticks. Once they had finished their meal, they would receive their next clue.

Ryan, Amy, Brittany, Will, Abba, Jaymes, Brent, Nadiya, Rob (initially performed incorrectly), Sheila, Lexi

The Bund

  • Shanghai
  • Distance: 0.85 miles

Teams had to search for a pair of young women sitting on The Bund using abacuses to get their next clue.

PitStop.png Pit Stop: Teams were greeted by a Chinese person at the Pit Stop with 你好, and sent off with 再见 after being checked in. The first team to arrive won the 'Double Your Money' prize. This meant that instead of racing for $1 million, they alone would have the chance to win $2 million on finishing the race in first place.
