Production

CBS renewed the series for its 20th season in June 16, 2011. This season spans a little over 36,000 miles in twenty-two cities and five continents with first-time visits to Paraguay and Azerbaijan. It featured tasks where teams are forced to skydive in Argentina, are inspired by Disney's Sleeping Beauty castle in Germany and train with Maasai warriors in Tanzania. Italy is also confirmed for this season.

In Leg 8, two teams (Brendon & Rachel and Vanessa & Ralph) survived a Double U-Turn and were not eliminated.

During Leg 10, Bopper & Mark won the Fast Forward, yet were eliminated on the same leg; marking the second time in the show's history that this happened. (This previously occurred to Dennis & Andrew on Leg 3 of season 3.)

  • A red team placement means the team was eliminated.
  • A green ƒ indicates that the team won a Fast Forward.
  • A purple ε indicates that the team decided to use the Express Pass on that leg.
  • An underlined blue team's placement indicates that the team came in last on a non-elimination leg and had to perform a Speed Bump during the next leg of the race.
  • A brown ⊃ or a cyan ⋑ indicates that the team chose to use one of the two U-Turns in a Double U-Turn; or indicates the team who received it.
  1. Rachel & Dave elected to use the Express Pass to bypass the Detour in Leg 3.
  2. Rachel & Dave initially arrived 2nd, but were issued a 2-hour penalty for using up all of their allotted bottles at the Roadblock and not finishing the task. During this time, four teams checked in at the Pit Stop, dropping Rachel & Dave to 6th.
  3. Rachel & Dave arrived at the Finish Line first, but did not complete the second Roadblock, having found the Finish Line by chance. They were required to turn back and complete the second Roadblock before being allowed to check in. This did not affect their placement as they still had checked in first and won.

Canadian ratings

Canadian broadcaster CTV also airs The Amazing Race on Sundays. Episodes aired at 8:00 p.m. Eastern, Central, and Atlantic (9:00 p.m. Pacific and Mountain). The only exception to this was the broadcast of the second episode which conflicted with CTV's broadcast of the 84th Academy Awards; The Amazing Race instead was shown at 6:00 p.m. in the Eastern, Central, and Atlantic time zones, and immediately after the broadcast of the Oscars in the Pacific and Mountain time zones.
