The Amazing Race: China Rush (Chinese: 冲刺!中国: 极速前进中国版; pinyin: Chōngcì! Zhōngguó: Jísù Qiánjìn Zhōngguó Bǎn) is a Chinese version of The Amazing Race, produced by Shanghai based international production company Fly Films. It features 10 or 11 teams of two people living in China in a race around the republic to win a trip around the world.

The show premiered in August 2010 and is still currently airing.

Contents

Production

The participants speak both Chinese and English. The contestants chosen to appear are from various countries and not solely from China, however these contestants must be living in China for a period of time in order to apply. The first season was comprised solely of foreign expats living within China. Season 2 was the first time Chinese contestants were featured.

Names of tasks

  • Detour: 繞道 (Ràodào)
  • Roadblock: 路障 (Lùzhàng)
  • Yield: 讓路 (Ràng lù)
  • U-Turn: 迴轉 (Huízhuǎn)
  • Intersection: 聯合 (Liánhé)
  • Speed Bump: 減速障礙 (Jiǎnsù zhàng'ài)
  • Pit Stop: 提示 (Tíshì)

Features differing from the original version

  • At the beginning of each leg, teams receive an allowance of cash usually in Chinese Yuan.
  • Clues are written in both Chinese and English.

Rules differing from the original version

  • There seems to be no rule prohibiting hitchhiking. As teams in the Second season rode in private vehicles on a few occasions with no penalty.
  • If team member helps their partner with a Roadblock they will be assessed a 30 minute penalty at the Pit Stop before being allowed to check in.
  • Failing to complete a Route Into task or Roadblock will result in a 2 hour penalty (4 hours in season 1) that must be served before teams can receive their next clue.
  • Teams failing to place their backpacks in the designated area at a challenge will be assessed a 30 minute penalty at the Pit Stop before being allowed to check in.
