Leg 1 (United States → Mexico)

"On day seven, she might be clawin' my eyes out" – Michael
Detour.png Wheels: Direct a donkey-drawn cart around a marked course.
PitStop.png 4th

Michael & Kary began their race in the middle of the pack, and were the fifth team to reach the airport and get on the American Airlines flight. They are joined on this flight by Heather & Eve, John Vito & Jill, Andre & Damon, Aaron & Arianne, Flo & Zach and Dennis & Andrew. Once in Mexico City, they quickly find a taxi that takes them to the Angel of Independence, reaching it in 2nd place. They then find a local who tells them that the picture of Pablo was taken 'downtown', and need to ask another local along the way for more directions. This drops them to fourth place as they reach the plaza and find Pablo. They then rush off to the hotel, being the last team to sign up for the first charter bus.

They are joined on this bus by Aaron & Arianne, Flo & Zach and John Vito & Jill. After the long bus ride, they arrive and pick up their Detour clue. Michael decides that they should perform Wheels, as his stomach is not built for skydiving. The local children laugh at them as they lead their donkey away, and when they see the plane in the sky Michael states that he made the wrong decision because he is a coward. This drops them to fourth as they grab their clue and head for the Pit Stop. When they arrive, they learn that they are in 4th place.

Leg 2 (Mexico)

"Of course I say, 'Yeah! I'll go swim!' and I forget I can't swim." – Michael
Detour.png Manpower: Search a small radius for the next clue on kayaks.
Roadblock.png Michael: Dive for clue in a pool of dolphins.
PitStop.png 4th

Departing at 1:33am, Michael & Kathy calmly head towards their vehicles and wait two minutes for John Vito & Jill to join them. Both teams head out together with the agreement to work together. They eventually manage to catch up with another pair of working teams, Flo & Zach and Aaron & Arianne, and fall in line behind them. At long last Zach finds the pyramid, only for them to find they've all been beaten by Heather & Eve. Morning arrives and the six teams rush into the pyramid grounds at 7am. After grabbing the next clue, they head for the bus station. With only four minutes to spare, they get tickets on the 10am bus along with John Vito & Jill, Ken & Gerard, Flo & Zach, Aaron & Arianne and Heather & Eve.

After the long ride to Cancún, they run out and grab a taxi. All six teams arrive at the Marina at the same time and grab the Detour clue. Michael suggests that they complete Manpower and they hop into a kayak. They paddle through the water and find the next clue fairly quickly. They return to shore, drive to the ferry dock, and get on the same ferry as Flo & Zach, Aaron & Arianne and Heather & Eve. On Cozumel, they travel to the Roadblock site, where Michael decides to perform the Roadblock, despite the fact that he doesn't know how to swim. Michael gets into the water and slowly paddles around as the other three teams complete the Roadblock. He does find a clue, and takes a deep breath before diving down and grabbing it. Kathy is very proud of him. The same four teams catch a ferry back to the mainland and begin their drive to the Pit Stop. They arrive alongside Heather & Eve and step on the mat in 4th place.

Leg 3 (Mexico → England → Scotland)

"It's a twin hunt!" – Michael
Detour.png Punt: Travel by 'punt' a short distance downriver to the next clue.
Roadblock.png Michael: Participate in the caber toss, hammer throw and shot put.
PitStop.png 6th

Departing at 4:45am, get in a jeep and drive to the airport. With their alliance members Aaron & Arianne and Heather & Eve leading the way, they head for the airport. Aaron stops along the way to confer with them about what their plan will be, which irritates Michael. Once at the airport, they join with Flo & Zach and proclaim that the 'twin hunt' has begun. They then begin to try to find tickets for all four teams together to Mexico City, which proves to be extremely difficult. The group splits, and Aaron & Arianne and Michael & Kathy get on a 7:55am flight to Mexico City, planning to get tickets through to London once there. They then both purchase tickets through Miami and Paris to reach London. However, their layover in Miami is only 40 minutes, and they have tickets but no seat assignments. They try to get help from airport workers, but are strangely told that there is no more space on the flight.

However, the airline decided to put them in business class seats instead without altering the price. Their plane is the second to land in London, and both teams get on a train to Cambridge. They unfortunately choose a more indirect train, which costs them some time, but they soon arrive at the Detour. Michael decides they should perform Punt because he doesn't want to do something as corny as riding on a tandem bike. Kathy calls this a poor excuse, but agrees nonetheless. They head down the canal, but encounter trouble when they reach an area with heavy traffic. Michael does his best, but they bump into a number of other punts. They finish the task at the same time as Aaron & Arianne, and both teams grab their next clue. They head to the bus departure area, finding both Ken & Gerard and Derek & Drew waiting, and are later joined by the rest of the 'twin hunt' group.

After the long ride to Scotland, all six teams scramble to find taxis that can take them to Stonehaven. Their taxi driver, however, becomes lost once she leaves Aberdeen and reaches Stonehaven. It becomes clear that they are going in the complete wrong direction, so the driver pulls over to get directions. She is informed that they are about four miles off track. When they finally arrive at the castle field, all the other teams from their bus have already finished the Roadblock. Michael decides to perform the Roadblock, and he manages to complete both the caber toss and the hammer throw on his first try. To follow this up, he makes a few massive throws of the shot put, finishing the task in record time. They then travel up to the Pit Stop and arrive in 6th place.

Leg 4 (Scotland → Portugal)

"No, it's free! It's my mum's phone." – Scottish Local
Detour.png Old School: Use Portuguese longboat to deliver wine to one restaurant.
Roadblock.png Michael: Block a shot from a young professional soccer player.
PitStop.png 7th

Departing at 11:13pm, Michael & Kathy begin the long walk to the harbour. When they arrive, they pick up the bottle and depart for the airport. They find a local near the harbour and ask for his help. He finds a number for a travel agency and uses his cell phone to call it. Kathy wants to give him some pounds as thanks for using his phone, but the man refuses to accept it saying that it's his mum's phone anyway. They make reservations and then travel to the airport. They get on the same flight as their alliance, Flo & Zach, Aaron & Arianne, Heather & Eve and John Vito & Jill, as well as Derek & Drew and Ken & Gerard. The two teams of brothers split from the group while connecting through London. Later, Teri & Ian and Andre & Damon arrive in London and join up with them.

Once in Porto, they quickly get into a taxi to take them to the Calem Port Lodge, though they are the last to depart. Their taxi driver them becomes completely lost, costing them even more time. When they finally reach the Detour, they decide to complete Old School as Michael is not confident on his driving skills in this location. They work hard to cross the river and deliver their wine to the restaurant, completing the task in no time. They head to the train station, and all of the teams show up before the next train departs.

They all travel together to Lisbon, and then it's a mad dash to get a taxi. They are third to reach the stadium, where Michael decides to perform the Roadblock. It only takes Michael two tries to successfully deflect one of the shots and earn his next clue, putting them in 1st place. Their taxi driver offers to drive them to the Torre, but they inform him that they need to walk. They run through the city, getting close to the waterfront but then getting lost. Kathy is exhausted from the run as well, and soon reaches a point where she simply can't run any more. They wander around the city for a while more before they finally find the Pit Stop. They step onto the mat and are told that they are in 8th place. During the Pit Stop, a penalty is retroactively applied to Heather & Eve and they are moved up to 7th place.

Leg 5 (Portugal → Spain → Morocco)

"Time to go off the cliff, I guess." – Michael
Detour.png Ropes: Rappel down Ursa Cliffs
Roadblock.png Unknown: Find clue in one of many smelly dye vats.
PitStop.png 8th - Eliminated

Departing at 2:40pm in 7th place, Michael & Kathy ask a local for information and Michael at first thinks the westernmost point of continental Europe would be in England. They learn the correct destination and get in a taxi. Choosing a taxi puts them further ahead and they move up to 4th place when they reach the Detour. They decide to perform Ropes. They head to the cliffs and Michael descends first, giving encouragement to Flo beside him who is very terrified. Flo decides to quit, but Michael pushes past his fears and descends to the bottom. He bangs his hand and knee along the way but isn't concerned. Kathy begins her rappel while Ian zooms by next to her. When she reaches the bottom, they pick up their next clue now in 3rd place. They get into a vehicle and begin the extremely long drive to Spain, which takes them hours into the night.

They stop at a gas station to refuel, and Michael fills their tank with unleaded gas. They get on the road once more, but soon have to pull over to the side of the road when the vehicle suddenly dies. Michael has no idea what is wrong and begins to get frustrated. He pops open the hood but ultimately gets nowhere. They instead walk to the hotel across the street and decide to spend the night there. In the morning, they call a mechanic and have the car towed for repairs. After waiting for a couple of hours, the vehicle is fixed and they are able to continue. Michael never ends up learning that the car broke because he was meant to fill it with diesel fuel. The two then travel by ferry to Morroco. However, it is not known if they performed the rest of the leg's tasks, as they are only shown arriving at the Pit Stop in the middle of the night. Phil informs them that they are the last team to arrive and have been eliminated. They feel that their relationship has only grown, and Michael says it's time to end the long-distance situation and bring Kathy over to San Diego to be with him.
